Leadership/Respect The staff must respect their owners or program directors to stay motivated in the business. Respect can be gained by showing the strong, consistent leadership of a compassionate, understanding leader. This does not mean a lenient leader, but one that is fair and strong. Current
Staff
How does your staff look right now? Do they respect the leadership in the gym? If they do, keep on working. If they don’t, it is time to assess the role of the owner and program directors. Something has caused the staff to waiver in their respect or they never had it in the beginning and the current leaders are not creating an atmosphere where the staff can learn to be more respectful. Core
Staff
These are the staff members who are the heart and soul of the business. They are loyal, respectful and believe in your dreams and goals. These people need to be treated differently, these are also the people who do the bulk of the work. They are the heart and soul of the program. Work Environment Staff members will be more motivated and respectful if they can come to work in a happy, professional work environment. A great looking facility. A great looking office and coaches area. Also a happy staff attitude helps. Career Opportunities For the core staff to stay motivated and loyal, they need to see some future at the gym. Some way to have a career. our industry is getting better and better at this part. Inform your important people of the plans you have for them. Discipline
The lack of discipline can lead to a lack of respect and poor motivation on the part of the staff. We may think that we are doing the staff a favor by giving 2nd and 3rd chances but the effect is just the opposite. The staff wants to be treated fairly and consistently. If there are rules and policies for the staff, they all want these rules enforced. Bend for 1 then bend for another and then the staff doesn't know what rules are really important. Professionalism A professional staff has standards. Higher than most. This is difficult to maintain but it gives pride. It makes people strong and happy to earn their place on a professional staff. Don't deprive your staff of the wonderful feelings of working hard and being a part of an elite group, your STAFF! |
